Sewing Project #1 – Gong Xi Fa Chai Cape

Just a couple of days ago, the #porkgang was having the daily talk cock session on MSN. Haze and I somehow got into talking about taking vocal lessons together and then I suggested that we should take sewing lessons too. Suddenly she was like, “Ah, you want to sew ah? You take my sewing machine ah! I give you everything!”. I was like, “WTF? Are you serious?”. Later on, we met up for dinner and true enough, the back of her car was filled with sewing machine, loads of fabrics, mannequin and other stuff that I don’t even know what they are yet. SHE GAVE EVERYTHING TO ME!

Mannequin, fabrics and more fabrics!

My current apartment is really tiny and to be honest, I don’t really have space for a sewing machine. I ended up moving my laptop to the right of my study table and put the sewing machine where the laptop was. I think I made a good decision because as it turned out, it’s a very comfortable space to sew :)

I’ve got a sewing machine! I’ve got a sewing machine! I’m smiling from ear to ear :D

I spent an hour learning how to wind the bobbin and thread the machine. Thank goodness the manual was very, very detailed and I didn’t encounter any problem. Not to mention, Haze’s very clever to get the Brother XL2630 because it’s equipped with a quick-set bobbin and a needle threader! Great for blind asses like me :D

Threading the machine…

I tried out the machine and managed to sew a line without hurting any finger. Suffice to say, I was very, very proud with myself. Considering that my last sewing experience 10 years ago was nothing short of a failure. It was already about 2am by then but instead of going to sleep, I decided to embark on an impromptu sewing project!

Check out my awesomesauce drawing.

It was not as easy as I had imagined it to be. At first I thought of making an actual dog collar with buttons to fasten but I didn’t have any button. So after a bit of mucking around, I decided to make a collar cover instead. I chose a crimson red oriental patterned fabric for my project :D

First, I ironed out the wrinkles so I could with it more easily.

Then, I cut out a length of fabric with Charlie’s current collar as a reference.

After that, I roughly drew out the size of the triangular cape which will be attached to the collar.

And now, ladies & gentlemen, it’s sewing time!

My sewing skills suck to the max. Just look at my stitching :( I had to sew a few lines over each other to make/mock a straight line. If you’re in my situation, don’t fret because you’re turning the fabric outside in, so no one will find out :P

Now that the easy part is out of the way, it’s time to sew the collar cover. Imagine it’s like a mini bolster cover la! You sew the fabric end to end to form a cylinder shape. Make sure you leave space to attach the triangular cape though.

Took me 4 hours to get this:

And 15 minutes to clean up this mess….

and this mess too.

But it’s all worth it to see Charlie wearing something made with love on Chinese New Year :)

How’s my side profile, mummy?

Nah, lying down so you can see my Gong Xi cape clearly!

I can be a manly cowboy on Chinese New Year too, mummy.

I don’t like to model mummy, it’s so exhausting!

Till my next sewing project, thank you Haze for giving me this opportunity…I <3 YOU SO MUCH! +++ /UPDATE +++ Just got permission from QQ's owners that she could celebrate CNY with us for a couple of days. So I made another collar just for her :) It took me much faster this time, about 1.5 hours from start to finish. Check out my latest model :D Pink is so my colour!

More angpows please :D

Pre-CNY reunion dinner at Fitou with #porkgang

Since everyone has somewhere to go during Chinese New Year, #porkgang decided to get together with all the furkids to celebrate pre-CNY at Fitou, Desa Park City. Eric booked the table under “porkgang” and according to Kerol, that was exactly what was written on the placard on the table. Haha. There were 13 of us not including 5 bitches and 1 dawg.

Food was awesomesauce, especially for the price. The salads were particularly outstanding.

Country Farmer salad. Prawns, thick bacon and fresh crisp lettuce. Nais!

Pork burger. Big, juicy & delicious!

Paella for 2. Very moist & flavourful. Thumbs up!

Some kinda pork in black pepper based sauce. Pretty good if you like the spicy.

Carbonara. Rich and creamy in the tastiest way ever. Awesomesauce!!!

Introducing the bitches and the stud….

CheddieSluttyBitch. As you can see, living up to her namesake.

KoyukiGanasBitch. Should change name dy. KoyukiMensaBitch or something. Fucking smart, cannot believe.

EmoQQ. Possibly the soon-to-be latest addition to my family :) She looks a splitting image of #EmoCharlie <3 <3

Last but not least, the handsome EmoCharlie. Which is him? The one that looks exactly like daddy, of course.

And now…the secondary characters at dinner.

Ah Horng & Selina.

Haze and the ex joined us a while later and I didn’t get to take any picture of her. I love Haze very much and you shall find out why in coming posts. In the meantime, check out her blog for awesomesauce makeup & fashion tutorials. And if you want to revamp your blog, look no further cause Haze is your woman.

Here’s a photo lifted from Haze’s blog.

Damn hot right? Well, truth is she doesn’t look like that without makeup, so what I’m saying is her makeup skills are damn l33t. Hahahaha jangan bunuh aku!!!

Yours truly and ST.

After dinner, we walked the dogs at the park. All the pups running alongside and chasing each other. So HAPPY!!

And the last picture to complete this entry…

Furong jiejie and Charlie.

Happy Chinese New Year peeps!

Dress according to your body with a gunny sack.

Ok disclaimer first. Seriously I’m no fashionista. But I like to think that I dress pretty okay for my size and shape (whenever I MAKE the EFFORT that is). I’m a UK 8 at best of times. If I could, I’d just throw on a worn out tee/bf’s football shorts combo and head out. I mean, sometimes I dress like this:

Sorry for offending your eyes.

I don’t have the perfect body, I think I have too little ass, too little tits and a bit too much chubs on the arms. I’m guessing about 80% of women are suffering from the same fate. Too much ass with too lil boobs, too skinny arms with snooker table legs, you name it, we’ve got it. So I’m not trying to appeal to everybody here cause it’s impossible but why are there girls wearing lacy leggings when their thighs are in danger of popping the seams open or wearing dresses that make them look short and waist-less? How about boots that cut off your legs when you’re already given so little length from birth.

As my mom has drilled into me since I started to dress myself, that always buy something just slightly loose. Because it’s aesthetically better for people to guess your shape then to see every single layer of muffin top, visible panty line (VPL) and back cleavage. Just because something looks good on a person with an entirely different body than you does not mean it will look good on you too. If I had to choose, I’d rather be classic & pretty than say, trendy & tragic :P

Anyhow…lets start with a gunny sack top that can double as a dress. I got this for chinese new year because it’s comfortable, it’s capable of hiding my bak kua filled belly and I can wear it over and over again with different accessories.

Gunny sack

I bought it for the unique seam at the front. With this feature, it looks like a well-thought out design other than just something someone stitch together from leftover fabric :)

But it’s a little too simple isn’t it? So I throw on a long vest just to make it a little less boring. I don’t recommend putting on too much accessories when you’re layering because I feel that it’d end up looking trying too hard. That said, it’s all down to personal preferences.

With a long vest.

I like long vest because it doesn’t tell people that I don’t have an arse. People would just assume that I do :) Of course, the fluidity of the vest also channels out a lot of feminity.

You can also play with it like a cape.

And lastly, when I feel a little diva-ish, a getup like this might still be a little too bland to me. So I’d just throw on the bling-est belt I could find. In this case, the bf would definitely appreciate this rather because it gives me a waist more than anything.

A whole new outfit just with the addition of a belt.

The possibilities are endless. Think skinny jeans, even leggings if you’ve got the pins, high-waisted shorts or a pair of sunglasses to give the gunny sack top/dress an extra oomph. Just becareful not to wear all trends together at the same time, a fatal mistake I see some young girls are doing.
